After hearing good things about Whalen's, and their large portions, I decided to give it a try.
On a bright Wednesday morning, we decided to fill our stomachs with some brunch, but came at the most inopportune time. All the tables were reserved, so we sat outside.
Every entree comes with two side dishes and a drink, we ordered fruits and yogurt.
The breakfast wrap was unimpressive, and the sauces were watery.
The original skillet had home fries underneath mixed with eggs, bacon, tomatoes, bell peppers and onions. The portion was indeed large, but the flavor was lacking
An omelette order with a side of steak poutine
An order of Egg Benny. The eggs were good, but the hollandaise sauce was a little odd.

Brookhurst [Taipei/Vietnamese]

Brookhurst

Summer days in Taiwan are unbearably hot and for some reason I really wanted to have Pho for dinner, the combination of delicious broth, basil and lime, just seemed perfect. But when it comes to Vietnamese food my previous experiences have not been the best.
Brookhurst serves your staple Vietnamese food : banh mi, pho, dry noodles and rice plates
A fresh and light spring roll with an interesting addition, a fried doughnut. The spring roll also came with a type of chicken consomme dipping sauce.
The deep fried egg rolls were crispy and full of filling.
The baguette of pork banh mi was a tad dry, but the pork was quite tender and the pickled vegetables flavorful.
A decent size bowl of Pho, the broth itself was quite bland and the beef and noodles average.
